I am huge fan of the NFL and if your'e also a fan you have realized that the first three NFL weeks have kind of looked a little different as if you look closely you will not recognize any of the referees and that is because the NFL referees were in a lockout with the NFL. So instead of giving in to the officials the NFL must of thought it would be just as easy to replace them with other referees, well boy o boy were they wrong. Most of the NFL's replacement referees were either division two or division three referees which you might think is alright but the speed and the rules of the NFL is so much faster and more complex which is the main reason these replacement referees blew so many calls and they also seemed like they were really quick to call pass interference penalties. Everyone was criticizing the officials but more than that they were blaming the NFL to figure something out so the game could get back to normal, but it just seemed like the league wouldn't budge. Well that all changed last Monday when a game between the seahawk's and packers was poorly called all game long and when it came to the last play of the game, which was a jump ball caught mainly by the defender but also held onto by seahawk's receiver Golden Tate. The ball was controlled and first caught by the defender but the officials ruled it a touchdown on the field then reviewed it and kept it a touchdown, which ended the game with the Seahawks getting the win that probably should of went the other way. After the game it was a unanimous decision between the player's, coaches, fans, and media that the officials blew the call and gave the wrong team the win. Which lead to an uproar of tweets and comments from players and fans that this desicion of not coming to an agreement with the regular official was causing the NFL to lose their integrity and it was also effecting the integrity of the game. Which in the turn of things lead the NFL to do what they could to reach an agreement with the regular referee's earlier this week, so on the behalf of the fan's welcome back you were truly missed and now the NFL realizes how important you actually are.
Alright, I'm going to be honest. I knew the regular ref's were on strike, but I hadn't been paying too close attention to how the games were being called, I was just listening to everyone else complain about them. This wasn't until that game last Monday, when just like everyone else, I was furious at the ref's and threw so many useless insults and obscenities their way. Not that it did anything at all, but I had to yell at someone, right? I am so glad to hear that an agreement was made and we get the regulars back. I didn't watch Thursday's game, so I hope to watch games today to see how they do.
ReplyDeleteI am a huge NFL fan, and my favorite team is the Packers, so the call on Monday night had me really angry at the replacement refs. I don't understand how they could call that a touchdown, and what really bothered me was that one ref called touchdown and the other called interception. They should have at least huddled up and talked about it, but that never happened. I can't believe they got these replacement refs that are Division 2 or 3 refs. They were put into a tough situation, but they still should have done better. I am really glad to see the real refs back.
ReplyDeleteIt was really hard to watch the officiating by the replacements for the past few weeks. Although I was very frustrated with the poor calls, and lack of authority, I also felt bad for the replacement refs. It has to be the most horrifying experience to go in front of the entire nation and try to officiate the most popular game it has. The NFL should've thought about what the fans were going to think as their teams were continually being screwed by these inadequate refs. I blame the NFL, not the officials.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I didn't even know the old ref's were on strike. I kind of had an idea about it but wasn't to positive. I know that the new ref's were making terrible calls. I don't even like the packers but some of those calls were a little ridiculous. I'm real glad that they got the old ones to come back.
